Admissions

Thank you for your interest in our MFA program. We look forward to receiving your application for the Fall 2014 semester.

Deadline: Applications must be postmarked by January 3, 2014

Step 1:

Mail all of your completed application materials in one envelope to:

Application Materials

  •  3 Copies of your Creative Writing Sample: 

              Fiction applicants: 20 pages of short fiction or a novel excerpt

              Poetry applicants: 8-10 poems

              Translation applicants: 5-6 pages of poetry OR fiction translated into English, together with copies                                                       of the original texts

  • GRE Scores: 1 official copy, plus 1 photocopy
  • All College Transcripts: 1 official copy of each transcript, plus 1 photocopy
  • 3 Letters of Recommendation:  sealed with signature on the flaps
  • Critical Writing Sample: 10 pages of academic writing such as a research paper
  • Teaching Statement: 250-word statement (see Teaching Assistantship Application for more info)
  • TOEFL Scores: Required for applicants whose native language is not English; 1 official copy, plus 1 photocopy
  • Optional--a self-addressed stamped postcard:  to confirm receipt of your application

 

Please note: there is no application fee at this stage of the process. Initially, applications will be evaluated solely on the merits of the writing.  You should not apply for admission to the UA Graduate School at this time.

Step 2:

Wait for a response. If we respond favorably to your application, we will then provide you with the application forms for the UA Graduate School.

Please note: All application materials are destroyed at the close of each admissions cycle. New materials -- including test scores and letters of recommendation -- must be sent each year that you apply.
